At the Sweet Shop we have some wonderful regular customers & we love you all!

Sometimes it feels like “Cheers” here ;)
We have been thinking for awhile about a way to celebrate some of our favorite customers and decided since we live in such a techie world why not blog about these special customers with a BIG Thank You.
So hello Harry!

Almost 2 years ago I noticed a lovely & charming gentleman stopping by the shop on his daily walk, often popping in for his usual café au lait, a sandwich or sometimes a froyo, but even more important to sit and relax for awhile & read the newspaper. Apparently, we are one of the few places that offer the Daily News & Daily Post in the neighborhood!

As time passed and Harry frequented more & more I just couldn't wait to say hi to Harry. One day we talked about one of his beautiful classic cars and moments later who showed up? Harry of course to take us for a spin, what a special treat!

We have all gotten to know Harry at the Sweet Shop and one of the best things about Harry is he has taken the time to get to know us personally. He has traveled the world and shares some great stories & pictures with us, he’s even been to the town I was born in - Paraparamu! Harry is the ultimate customer & if you spot him in the shop please do say hello Harry!

A visit from Harry is essential every day for us - Harry you definitely make our Life Sweet!

If you didn't know already, the Sweet Shop has a cool outdoor dog friendly patio. Some of our canine friends have a hard time walking by the Sweet Shop without stopping by for a special doggie cookie made by Auntie Julie;)

There is plenty of room for our furry friends and free water for all those on their walks!

We have discovered there are very few pet friendly restaurants in the Bay Area so we want to be sure you know about our patio and introduce our new Doggie Menu for your pets!

We are so lucky at the Sweet Shop to have such an amazing team, they are part of our community, part of our decision making process for products and ideas and most of all they really do make the shop extra “sweet”…This week we are saying goodbye to our lovely Barista, Danielle.
Danielle has been working at the Sweet Shop for just over a year, she recently graduated from high school and is now off to college & her future endeavors.

She is someone that will always go the extra mile & beyond with a smile and one of the most giving, helpful people I have met.

We even named one of our latest sandwiches after her, “The Danielle”….French baguette lightly buttered with ham and cheese – so simple and cheerful just like our Danielle! They are quite popular ;)

As I said...Danielle always went above and beyond...our lovely Easter Bunny!

If you haven't met Danielle, please do stop by the Sweet

There is something special about the perfect croissant when the outside is just slightly crispy and the inside is a light layer of pillows.

At the Sweet Shop we have been on a quest to find this perfect croissant to share with you. We have discovered it and are now baking croissants in our lovely little oven every morning! If you are one of our early morning customers, it will be hard to resist one of these croissants especially with their savory aroma.

Be sure to get your croissant early as these won't last...Pairs perfectly with a Café au lait.

Sweeten up Dad this year with a gift from the Sweet Shop, Fathers Day is just 1 week away! We just received our hand made truffle collection from Saratoga Chocolates. A handsome gift box filled with 2 black & tan, 2 port & 2 chili spice truffles. Hard to resist this one, you will want to keep it for yourself!

Or pick up a bag of the English Toffee. We are really gaga over this one, it is sooooooooooo good (of course we have to sample everything first ;)

Saratoga's housemade toffee is made with butter and sugar and cooked just right. They enrobe the pieces in a dark milk chocolate finished with chopped almonds and then break them in to pieces.

Sweet Shop Gives Back to Local Schools

The Sweet Shop is already making its second donation to local schools!

What appears as a simple “tip” jar located on the counter reads “Any spare change will go to schools”. The customers drop their change in the jar and often give even more after realizing it goes back to their schools. This is a true definition of full circle giving.

A total of $3800 has been collected in the last year and will be presented to two local schools this week, Egan Junior High School in Los Altos will receive $1900 to purchase an Interactive Presentation Presenter and Terman Junior High School in Palo Alto will receive $1900 to purchase a much needed Smart Board.

Recchiuti Debuts at the Sweet Shop

Our new favorite chocolate bar, the Fève... Cocoa Nibs meets Chocolate.

What are Cacao Nibs you ask?

They are the dried and roasted kernel of the cocoa bean that remains after the husk has been removed.

In this unique bar, Michael Recchiuti explores the combination of cacao's starting point (the nib) with its end point, finished chocolate. Roasted cacao nibs ("fave" in French) impart earthy flavor and crunch to the smooth richness of the bittersweet chocolat. The contrast between the smooth rich dark chocolate and the roasted cocoa nibs makes this bar one you may not want to share!

We have also added a Burnt Caramel Sauce to our shop of goodies...Simply drizzle over your favorite desert - ice cream, frozen yogurt, pie, cake, fruit or whatever tickles your fancy!

Since we opened we have baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies everyday at the Sweet Shop!

Our cute little oven almost seems like a high powered convection easy bake oven.

We carry some delicious baked goods from our local bakeries but there is something extra special about one of our fresh baked chocolate chip cookies (my sons fav) that soothes us with the comfort of home.

On a typical afternoon once school lets out we can't bake them quick enough to keep up with the demand, fortunately we recently purchased more cookie sheets so we are on top of it now and have cookies for all!

Haven’t had one yet? get 'em while they last.
If it didn't just pop out of the oven, we will even warm it up for you.
And if you are like some of our young customers nothing goes better with a chocolate chip cookie than a cold glass of milk or a hot chocolate!

Oh, and if you need to bring a treat to school or an event, give us a jingle and we will happily make batches of cookies for you.

So we really don't have any real snakes, no worries...butterflies yes!

What we do have is a delightful new chocolate line that we absolutely adore

Snake & Butterfly Chocolates made in Campbell, Ca.

Here is a just sample of our favorites: Smoked Almond Bar, Dark Chocolate Bar Ghana, Chocolate & Mission Fig Caramels, Maple Bacon Chocolate Caramels, Honey Chocolate Caramels, Chocolate Marshmallows just to name a few. Mouth watering and delicious!

They are all so good, it makes it so hard to decide which one!

We also have one of their RAW Chocolates, "raw" chocolate is not processed or heated and contains more anti-oxidants from the Cacao plants (this is healthier), aka "live chocolate". Most of the chocolates are vegan and gluten free too!

To all of our chocolate fans we have just added a new line to our collection and are enjoying every bite of these beautiful chocolates...Saratoga Chocolates. Not only are these amazing but they are locally made in Saratoga Village, California!

We have chosen some of our favorite flavors and created a 6 piece truffle box that makes such a unique gift. Truffles Flavors... Midnight Dark Chocolate, Key Lime Pie, Valencia Orange, Meyer Lemon, Chili Spice and a Milk Chocolate Truffle. They are a work of art & almost too pretty to eat!

Ok, we really don't have any goats here... however it is Spring and the season for all the new baby goats so we are introducing our new caramels locally handmade by Happy Goat!

These yummy, creamy caramels are made using 100% natural goat milk and Vanilla Bean, such a difference from your every day caramel and simply delicious! And the good news is since they are made of goat milk vs. cow milk, they are lower in fat, better for you and for anyone that might be lactose intolerant, you can enjoy too!

Celebrate Earth Day with a Free Cup of Coffee!

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on Thursday, April 22nd, we are offering free house coffee all day long to those that bring in their own coffee mug from home!!! Our house blend this week is La Laguna Guatemala, locally roasted in Santa Cruz by Verve Coffee Roasters.

Everyday we bag our used coffee grinds in our cellulose candy bags, cellulose is primarily the component of the cell walls of plants and is a 100% biodegradable and can also be recycled with other paper products. The bags will biodegrade in soil in 30-90 days. Feel free to pick up a bag of our grinds & bring home to sprinkle on your acid loving plants & gardens.

The Sweet Shop has always been committed to having as little negative impact as possible on the environment. Happy Earth Day!

All of our cups, plates, utensils and supplies are biodegradable/compostable made from corn, sugarcane, & potatoes. Not sure where to put your trash? One ouf our favorites...Poco Dolce Tiles

The Sweet Shop has been carrying Poco Dolce chocolates from San Francisco since we opened. We discovered these little treats at the SF Chocolate Salon last summer and cant give them up! Last month at the 2010 Chocolate Salon, they were voted by attendees as "Best in the Show and Most Likely Addiction"...we can relate as they are so hard for us to resist looking at them all day long! The burnt caramel is our favorite, if you haven't tried already, make this your next lavish gift for someone or better yet spoil yourself rotten and indulge like no other.

Earlier this year we attended the SF Fancy Food Show and visited Poco Dolce again, we couldn't resist and had to add two new items! The Popcorn Toffee & Super Chile Toffee Squares, they come in a great tin and perfect to take a long on a trip or camping. The popcorn squares have that buttery, sea salt toffee with fresh air popped corn in the middle and covered in chocolate.

Some like it hot! If you like a little heat, try the Super Chile squares, two types of chile covered with their yummy bittersweet chocolate, just wait for the chile to kick in after after a moment of enjoying the chocolate - perfect combo!

Time for some fizzy bubbles at the Sweet Shop!

Our days are getting sunnier and summertime is just around the corner, time for a refreshing drink with bubbles!

Check out some of our latest additions... "Fizzy Lizzy" (gotta love that name), "Lorina Lemonade" and if you haven't checked out the "Ramune Soda" yet you are in for a treat (pop it, flip it, love it!)

Fizzy Lizzy is an all natural blend of whole fruit juice and sparkling water with no added sugar or corn syrup. You can actually see all of the fruit sitting at the bottom of the bottle, give it a shake. No gunk, no junk!

We discovered after a little mixing and tasting, our Costa Rican Pineapple Fizzy Lizzy makes a fantastic cold smoothie drink mixed with some yogurt. Next time you are at the Sweet Shop, ask for our special combo a, Fizzy Peach Mango Smoothie!

Spring has arrived at the Sweet Shop! Yes, we know it isn't "official" yet but our garden and fountain have flowers and inside the shop it sure feels like Spring. Stop by and check out all of our new goodies!
Spring & Easter treats everywhere...chocolate eggs, bunny's galore, lambs, cows, chickens, cows, gummy butterflies, gummy fried eggs, bunny corn just to name a few. Our FAVORITE new treat is our Edible Grass, it is a paper wafer candy and quite yummy to munch on, this wont last so pick some up on your next visit. Perfect alternative to decorating your Easter baskets and will be such a fun treat to be able to eat everything in your basket!

The Sweet Shop has just added some good old fashioned treats...lollipops, salt water taffy and rock candy sticks! Besides just reminding us of some things we liked as children, we are getting Spring Fever at the shop! Yes, all this rain is great and we appreciate it and so will our gardens come Spring but we just wanted to add a little more color to those dreary days. Enjoy!" Lollipop, Lollipop Oh lolli Lolli Lolli Lollipop...."

We just added some new old fashioned handmade swirly lollipop flavors to our collection! We still have our signature red & white peppermint lollipop of course but now if you want to try a different flavor, check out the bubblegum, cotton candy, berry, pineapple or tangerine. Look for the lollipop tree on display in the shop. Lollipops will never go out of fashion!

Just in - Salt Water Taffy! Most of us remember taffy from beach holidays, especially on the East Coast. Did you know Salt Water Taffy doesn't have any Salt Water in it? New Sweetness at the Sweet Shop

Red Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake Brownies, Red Velvet Cake Yogurt & some very special Truffles...our latest additions to the shop this week and we cant wait to share with you!

Just in time to celebrate Valentines, we now have Red Velvet Cake yogurt! This is absolutely divine, think of cake batter ice cream but with that yummy red velvet cake flavor. It brings back memories as a child of sneaking that last lick of the batter from the bowl from Mom's kitchen. Ask for one of our chocolate toppings to it and pretend that is the frosting, yum!

Be sure to check out these very special handmade truffles made by Socola Chocolatier now available at the Sweet Shop. They are so unique and you can taste the love that goes into making them.

Coffee Tasting & Cupping at the Sweet Shop

Please join us for a Coffee Tasting & Cupping event at the Sweet Shop on Saturday, February 6th, at 10:00am! This will be lots of fun and educational! We are thrilled to have our coffee supplier Verve Coffee Roasters hosting their coffees, serving some blends by french press as well as presenting a cupping.

You may ask but what is a "cupping"?

Coffee cupping was develeoped to learn and observe the different aromas and tastes of coffee and if you get really good at it you can often predict the coffee's origin. A little different than wine tasting, lots more slurping and sniffing and if you haven't been to a cupping before, this is a great opportunity to have some fun and learn a bit more about coffee.

We have island fever at the Sweet Shop, we know it is the middle of January and it is raining buckets outside, but we still like to dream about a nice warm tropical island to escape to!

Just pretend the puddles outside are the beautiful ocean and swim or float on over to the Sweet Shop for our new frozen yogurt flavor...Island Banana! Add a little chocolate to it and it may just remind you of a banana split on a hot summer day. Since our thoughts have been about miles of sandy beach, palm trees & sun this week, we decided to bring our favorite tart yogurt back - Peach-Mango! We are introducing some new drinks at the Sweet Shop this week...

First is for those that are looking for some hydration and something healthy, we now offer Vita Coco It has more than 15 times the electrolytes found in most sports drinks, it is natural pure coconut water made from green coconuts and has more potassium than two bananas but don't tell the monkeys that.

We also have a new water, "hint" water, if you haven't tried this yet, be sure to check out our variety of flavors. It is simply water with a just a hint of natural flavor, no sugar...our favorite flavor this week is the Honeydew-Hibiscus, makes us feel like we are at the spa or on vacation!

Lastly is our homemade Italian Sodas, we had so many requests from our sweet customers and now we are ready for you! Our flavors are Raspberry, Mango, Passionfruit Italian Sodas and our signature soda is a Peaches & Cream Italian Cremosa. What is the difference between a regular Italian Soda and a Cremosa? With the Cremosa, we had just a tad of half & half and nice dollop of whipped cream to make it just that much sweeter!

Sweet Holiday Celebrations at the Sweet Shop

On Saturday, December 19th, Santa and his helper will be making a very special visit to the Sweet Shop. We are very excited to have Santa take time from his busy holiday schedule to visit us. Santa will arrive at 2:00pm and be available to take pictures with children and ready to enjoy some cookies and milk with you – bring your cameras for that perfect holiday photo moment!

After Santa heads back to his toy workshop, we will have a Cello Musical Performance at 3:30pm by Lana Gruen and one of her Students performing a special Holiday Music Cello Duet. We welcome Lana back again to the Sweet Shop and can’t wait to hear another beautiful performance!

Just when you thought our celebrations were over….we decided to continue the festivities on Sunday, December 20th at 1:00pm with a Classical & Holiday Tunes Trumpet Duet, performed by Mark Cuson & Joel Infeld. Mark and Joel are both long time residents of Los Altos and are Juniors at Los Altos High School (LAHS). They have been playing the trumpet for seven years, four of which with private instruction. Both Mark and Joel are trying to raise money for college and wish to do so in a way that advances their musicianship and gives back to our community. We can’t wait for our first trumpet performance at the Sweet Shop.

The Holidays have arrived at the Sweet Shop! Our decorations and twinkling lights are up and we are ready to celebrate with you! Forget the busy shopping malls, the icy cold days (snow on the hills) and come warm up at the Sweet Shop with hot apple cider, hot chocolates, hot soup or just some warmth. Check out our new selection of yummy holiday gifts ...something special for everyone.

Just to name a few of our new favorites...the best ever Peppermint Bark, Gingerbread Boys dipped in chocolate, S'mores Cookies, English Toffee, Buttered Toffee Corn. We also have a new cake from our bakery - Red Velvet Cake with a Cream Cheese Frosting - super yummy and moist! Everything is so tempting, our team is working hard to resist all of the treats.

Brownies? Even better, our latest brownie pops - brownies on a stick with the perfect combination of gooey brownie inside and a crisp chocolate exterior…we have snowman brownie pops and chocolate w/sparkles like the ones in the picture. These wont last long and are so cute - we like to call it our new "mini cupcake"!

Our caramel apples are back and we have two new flavors for the holidays! This beautiful one is double dipped in caramel and rolled in Almonds, Pecans, Mini Dark Chocolate Chips & Cranberries. It is then half dipped in Guittard White Chocolate and finished off with a dark chocolate drizzle. Also, new is our Cheesecake Apple Apple double dipped in caramel, half dipped in white chocolate and rolled in graham cracker crumbs. Cheesecake anyone?

The turkeys have arrived at the Sweet Shop - gobble gobble indeed! We have 2 adorable and festive turkeys for you that will make any Thanksgiving table a little bit more special. First, we have the traditional chocolate turkey - who doesn't remember having at least one of these on their Thanksgiving table at some point? Second, we have something new that you can add to your table to make it a new tradition - a "turkey climber". How cute is this? It's a caramel apple candy stick with a handmade turkey. This would be so cute sitting at everyone's place setting at the Thanksgiving table.

Wow! Talk about a picture really making your mouth water. These are our frozen yogurt toppings...yummmmm. We have some new ones and you just have to come in and try them on top of your favorite Sweet Shop froyo. Some of the new ones include coconut, candy corn, dimples, mango, graham cracker and mini peanut butter cups. We also have 3 new sauces - chocolate, caramel and pomegranate. Some of our regular toppings include fresh strawberries (not frozen!), rainbow sprinkles, almonds, oreo cookie crumbles, cookie dough balls (a favorite), carob chips and of course...chocolate chips. By popular request, we are now offering a wonderful lunch special here at the Sweet Shop. We are offering a bowl of Organic Creamy Tomato Soup (gluten free!) and an incredibly delicious Provolone, Prosciutto & Fig Panini. Oh my!! Can you just taste the combo now?! Imagine, a yummy cheese melts into a puddle, with a hint of salty prosciutto, and a smudge (just the perfect amount mind you) of sweet fig jam to balance it all. You now have the classic favorite treat - the All American Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a bowl of Tomato Soup. And it's all here waiting for you at the Sweet Shop!

Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies at the Sweet Shop

Mmmmm. What's that smell? There are a couple times a day when you walk into the Sweet Shop that you may smell the wonderful aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Have you tried one of our wonderful chocolate chip cookies yet? If not, you are in for a treat as they are really melt in your mouth yummy and sure to have you ask "Got Milk?". They aren't massive sized, nor have we done anything crazy to them - they just taste like your wonderful, typical homemade cookies...and isn't that the best of all?!! So if you haven't treated yourself to a Sweet Shop chocolate chip cookie yet - what are you waiting for? We've got 'em and we're waiting for you.

Caramel apples & chocolate drenched marshmallows - oh my!!

Some very special caramel apples and chocolate drenched marshmallows have made their way to our Shop and we are very excited to announce their arrival! Imagine if you will...a Granny Smith apple drenched in caramel, dipped in chocolate and finished off with white chocolate drizzle. Wow!

Here is a picture of the chocolate covered marshmallows. Three marshmallows are covered in a decadent caramel, then drenched (!) in chocolate and then drizzled ever so lightly in white chocolate. Pure happiness on a stick!

Here are pictures (above and below) of 2 of the 3 types of caramel apples we have at the Shop. The one above has special "apple pie" yumminess on it and the one below is has just oodles of white chocolate happiness all over it. I can tell you from personal taste testing of both the apples and the marshmallows...these products are just like "rainbows and puppies". You just have to try them.

Sugar free candy now available at the Sweet Shop

The Sugarless Plum Fairy arrived today and delivered several types of delicious sugar free candy to the Sweet Shop. We now have a nice, small assortment of sugar free candy. We have had several requests for this and I'm happy to say it is now here.

Here is a picture of Patrick, age 2 1/2 who was our first sugar free candy customer. He purchased one of our sugar free lollipops. He was on his way to visit his Grandpa and stopped in to see if we had any sugar free candy as Grandpa can't have sugar. So glad the Sweet Shop was able to take care of his request! Thanks for coming in to see us Patrick and we hope we see you again real soon.

Halloween arrives at the Sweet Shop

BOO! Halloween has officially arrived at the Sweet Shop. We have a new candy display at the Sweet Shop and it is currently holding our Halloween candy. What wonderful batty delights do we have for you? Some favorites include

The Sweet Shop cares about your garden - and the planet

Have you seen these cute bags sitting around on one of the ledges lately and wondered what they were for? Well...today, our Barista (Sam) decided to use her wonderful sign making skills to tell our customers exactly what was in these bags and what they could be used for. They are used coffee grinds and your garden LOVES them. Sprinkle them around your flowers and they will make them so very happy.

Here at the Sweet Shop we care very much about the environment and many of you are probably not aware that almost EVERY cup, bowl, utensil, lid and bag in our shop is compostable. That's right...even the candy bags!! Our candy bags are cellulose bags. Cellulose is the primary component of the cell walls of plants - completely natural and nontoxic, can be composted, is 100% biodegradable -- and can also be recycled with other paper products. Biodegrades in 30 to 90 days in soil. The yogurt cups are sugarcane, our utensils are potatoes. So much here at the Sweet Shop is biodegradable it's amazing!

The Sweet Shop is much more than just a "community sweet store with heart" - we care not only for our customers of today - but for our customers of tomorrow. And we care very much about the planet that we are all sharing.

Dog treats now available at the Sweet Shop

We love dogs here at the Sweet Shop and as of today - we are now selling homemade dog bones from "Auntie Julie's Canine Cookies"! That's right, bring in Fido (or Rover, or Spot) for a homemade, healthy dog bone here at the Sweet Shop. And to make sure that they tasted good, our own Manager and one of our Barista's taste tested them and sure enough - they are yummy enough for people to eat! They are chock full of healthy ingredients, so you'll feel good about your four-legged best friend eating them as he/she accompanies you to the Sweet Shop.

Here are a couple pictures of our first "Dog Customer" and his owner. This is Henry and his cute owner is 5 year old Asha. As you can see in the first picture, Henry looks at his bone - then quickly decides to eat it. Thanks Asha for bringing Henry to the Shop and letting him be our first dog customer. We hope to see you both back here soon.

Our first Sunday customers at the Sweet Shop

The Sweet Shop is now open on Sundays! And here is a picture of our first Sunday customers - Karen and Riley Moulds of Los Altos. By popular demand, we are now open on Sundays. We have had so many customer requests to PLEASE be open both weekend days, that we are going be be open from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm on Sundays. I know our hours have been changing so much lately and we appreciate you bearing with us, so here are our hours for the remainder of Fall/Winter: Tuesdays - Saturdays 8:30 am - 5:30 pm ; Sundays 10:00 am - 5:00 pm ; Closed Mondays.

The word is out! The baked goods at the Sweet Shop are a hit!!

Have you tried our baked goods yet? If not - you are in for a treat...a real treat! Our baked goods come from some of the best bakeries in the Bay Area (yes, we are biased). However, the word is slowly getting out there and our customers are coming back for more after they have tried them for the first time - or a new customer has come in and said "I heard you have Sibby's Cupcakes in here!!".

We have baked goods from "Icing on the Cake" in Los Gatos. If you have never treated yourself to one of their delectable goodies, you just have to come in and try one of the items that we are carrying from their bakery. While they have some of the best cakes, cupcakes and cookies that we have ever tried, we are only able to carry a few of their top sellers. Currently we are carrying some of their popular loaf cakes, s'mores (a huge hit - I swear eating one of these will take you back to your childhood sitting by a campfire), fancy cookies and a few of their other treats.

Sibby's Cupcakes - It is true! We have them folks. Word is slowly leaking out that we have them and the customers that had never tried them before are now repeat customers (I'm not making this fact up). Tell me now - how cute are the designs on these cupcakes too? And the chocolate one that you see in the picture above with the swirly design, they have a creme filling inside that will make you want a huge glass of milk right beside you. You just have to try a Sibby's Cupcake if you've never tried one - I swear they are the best, freshest tasting cupcakes ever! (and their design team can put anything on top of a cupcake - they are amazing).

Dippin' Dots at the Sweet Shop

Yes - we are one of the few Northern California retail locations that are privileged to carry Dippin' Dots. They are called the "ice cream of the future" and judging by the fact that we sell out of them almost every week, our customers like this futuristic ice cream. We have several of their most popular flavors including: Banana Split, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Cookies n Cream with Oreo. We are going to be trying their Cotton Candy and Rainbow Ice flavors later this week...so stop in to let us know if you like these flavors too!
